ABOUT THE THEATRE
Situated at 49 Aldwych, London, the Aldwych opened in 1905. The theatre became very famous in the 1920s and 1930s, as a theatre that specialised in hosting farces by the celebrated playwright Ben Travers. In 1949, Vivien Leigh starred at the Aldwych in a stage version of 'A Streetcar Named Desire'. In 1960 the Royal Shakespeare Company used the theatre for its base in the capital.
