Having recently celebrated its 35th Anniversary in London’s West End, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s timeless musical The Phantom of the Opera has returned home to His Majesty’s Theatre.
Experience the thrill of the West End’s most haunting love story.
The show has played to over 145 million people in 41 countries and 183 cities in 17 languages and is the 3rd longest-running show on the West End.
The story surrounds the legendary ‘Phantom’, a musical genius who hides in the shadows of the Paris Opera House. He has been shunned by Paris society because of his physical appearance and takes a shine to the young soprano Christine. He teaches Christine to sing ‘the music of the night’ and trains her for operatic fame and in doing so he falls madly in love with her. As Christine becomes more and more successful a young lover from her past reappears to court her and the Phantom becomes overwhelmed with jealousy. His jealousy then turns to rage as he begins to terrorize the Operatic company with dangerous threats.
The musical score includes Music of the Night, All I Ask of You, Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again, Masquerade, and of course the iconic title song.
The Phantom of the Opera first opened on the West End in October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman and has remained just as popular to this day. It is still thought of as one of the most beautiful and spectacular productions in history with a hauntingly beautiful musical score.
