The Six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st-century girl power.
The musical was first created by a group of Cambridge University students at The Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017 and has since gone on to be a global phenomenon. The musical is now a staple in London’s West End, Broadway and internationally.
Six tells the untold stories of each of the wives with an 80-minute pop concert. Catherine of Aragon who recounts how Henry wanted to annul their marriage and send her to a nunnery. Anne Boleyn talks about all the other men she flirted with and how Henry’s jealousy eventually led to her beheading. Jane Seymour believes that Henry’s love was conditional of her producing a male heir but she still stood by him until her death. Anne of Cleves was rejected by Henry and their marriage annulled as he claimed she didn’t look like her portrait. Katherine Howard relives the emotional trauma she went through with her many suitors who only wanted her because of her looks. Finally, Catherine Parr talks about her arranged marriage to Henry after being forced to separate from her true love.
