Tina – The Tina Turner Musical is finally debuting at the Aldwych Theatre in London’s West End on Wednesday 21st March with opening night on Tuesday 17th April 2018!
The new jukebox musical tells the life and career of the Queen of Rock’n’Roll Tina Turner, starting from her humble first steps in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into one of the world’s best-selling artists of all time. From the initial success with her husband, Ike Turner, in the 1960s, through her divorce and solo career from 1978, to her introduction into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, Tina Turner never played safe but always rewrote the rules of game. She dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race and throughout various up and downs this led her to win 12 Grammy Awards and to sell more concert tickets than any other solo artist in music history.
Tina Turner’s amazing life was first narrated in a biographical film in 1993 and it is now time for its musical theatre adaptation to hit the stage of the Aldwych Theatre. The new musical is written by award winning playwright Katori Hall (Olivier Award for The Mountaintop) and directed by the internationally acclaimed film and theatre director Phyllida Lloyd (Mamma Mia!). Tina Turner is portrayed by Broadway star Adrienne Warren who received a Tony Award nomination for Shuffle Along in 2016 and will sing Turner’s major hits as “What’s Love Got to Do?”, “Proud Mary”, “River Deep Mountain High” and “Simply the Best”.
