Tina The Musical at the Aldwych

24 Apr 2019

Tina The Musical has just celebrated its first year in the West End! Tina Turner’s jukebox musical officially opened on 17th April 2018 at the Aldwych Theatre and the crowds went wild. The show received three nominations for the Olivier Awards this year with Kobna Holdbrook-Smith winning the one for Best Actor in a Musical on Sunday 7th April.

With a book by OIivier Award winner Katori Hall, the new musical directed by Phyllida Lloyd tells the story of Tina Turner, from the early beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to the rise to stardom, moving from hit to hit including, just to name a few, “What’s Love Got to Do?”, “Proud Mary”, “River Deep Mountain High” and “Simply the Best”.

Playing Tina and her husband Ike are now Nkeki Obi-Melekwe and Ashley Zhangazha who took over from Adrienne Warren and Olivier winner Kobna Holdbrook-Smith who originated the roles. The Original London Cast Recording is also available on Spotify, iTunes and all streaming platforms.
