Last chance to see Kinky Boots

13 Dec 2018

Only one month left to see Kinky Boots at the Adelphi Theatre! After a three-year run, the 2016 Olivier Award winner for Best New Musical will play its last West End performance on Saturday 12 January 2019.

Written by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein, with songs by Grammy and Tony winner Cyndi Lauper, the show directed by Jerry Mitchell (Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray, Legally Blonde) began previews at the Adelphi Theatre on 21 August 2015 and officially opened on 15 September 2015. The original West End cast was led by Killian Donnelly (Les Miserables) as Charlie Price and Matt Henry as Lola, a role that gave Henry an Olivier Award for Best Actor. The pair recently returned to the Kinky Boots stage for a few nights only to record their performances for a future worldwide screening.

Inspired by true events, Kinky Boots tells the story of Charlie Price, the new owner of a Northampton shoe factory at bankruptcy risk and his friendship with drag queen Lola. In order to save the family business, Charlie is inspired by Lola, who needs some sturdy stilettos for her performances, to turn the factory production to an unlikely direction.

Kinky Boots’ tale of friendship and open-mindedness was first told by the 2005 film led by Chiwetel Ejiofor. It received the first musical adaptation in Chicago in 2012 before debuting on Broadway in 2013. 13 Tony Award nominations later, it arrived in the West End where the cast is currently led by Oliver Tompsett (Wicked, We Will Rock You) as Charlie Price and Simon-Anthony Rhoden in the role of Lola. The show has also embarked on a UK tour in September.
