Chicago razzle dazzles the West End

03 Jun 2018

After a five-and-a-half-year break Chicago has returned to London and is now ready to razzle dazzle the West End! The award-winning musical officially opened on Wednesday 11th April and will play at the Phoenix Theatre until 6th October 2018.

Set in a county jail in Chicago, the hit musical by Kander & Ebb tells the story of the rivalry between Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two murderesses and performers who fight to get notoriety through their celebrity criminal status. Lawyer Billy Flynn will help them with that.

The cast of the revival stars Cuba Gooding Jr, making his West End debut as Billy Flynn, and Ruthie Henshall as Mama Morton. The two leading ladies Roxie and Velma are played by Chicago alumni Sarah Soetaert and Josefina Gabrielle respectively.

The production originally played at the Adelphi in 1997 winning an Olivier Award in 1998 and went on running in the West End for 15 years before embarking on a UK and international tour. Sexy, sassy and seductive, Chicago features famous songs and dance numbers such as All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango, When You’re Good To Mama and Razzle Dazzle.
